I understand stainless steel cookware is very easy to clean and you shouldnt use bleach, so how do you clean it?

Is it as simple as put water and boil the water like you would sterilize something for 10 minutes?
Or is there something different.

I have 5 pots that were left by a bad house sitter that have been dirty for about 3 weeks now.

I want to get my roommies a gift before I move out of the country in May and I was thinking of a pot/pan set because they're moving into a new house and their pots/pans are BAAAAAD. One roommate keeps talking about the "waterless cookware" - but honestly, I can't afford that. Both "waterless" and others seem to be made out of stainless steel. Does anyone know what is so special about "Waterless"? Thanks!

I have a set of Cuisinart hard anodized cookware that is not supposed to go in the dishwasher. My cleaning lady has repeatedly put a few of these pots in the dishwasher, resulting in a chalky film depositing on the outside of the pans.

Is there a way I can get rid of this? Or are the pans ruined?
