How can I make cheap cookware (pots & pans) last longer?

I use to have a nice cookware set from JC Penny I had purchased for about 0, but due to a lot of moving I had to get rid of this set, so now that I am needing a new set I just went to Target and bought a cheap set for about . I want to know how I can get the most use out of them? What should the temperature be on the stove when I use them? Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
